Excess stock buyers in Sydney

Coorey and Co is a Sydney excess stock buyer, based in Parramatta, and has been buying surplus, clearance and liquidation stock for over 30 years. We buy across Greater Sydney and regional NSW. Send a stock list and photos, and in most cases we'll make an offer for the whole parcel.

Sydney is home for us. Coorey and Co has been buying and selling excess stock for over 30 years from our office at Level 14, 32 Smith Street, Parramatta. If you're a Sydney business with stock that isn't moving, you're dealing with someone a phone call and a short drive away. We buy the parcel ourselves and resell it through our own buyer network, so there's no fee and no listing to manage.

Who are the best excess stock buyers in Sydney?

The best buyer is the one who pays fairly, pays as agreed, and keeps your stock away from the customers you're trying to protect. That's how we work. Our four guarantees:

  1. "We strictly follow your guidelines in relation to pricing and distribution locations."
  2. "We send payment promptly, as per our agreed terms."
  3. "We place a priority focus on clearing your stock."
  4. "We speedily and discreetly convert your stock into cash at the highest possible price, without damaging your market position."

We buy excess, surplus, clearance, discontinued, short-dated and liquidation stock across most consumer goods: food and grocery, personal care, clothing and footwear, toys, electrical, cleaning products, homewares and general merchandise.

What kinds of Sydney businesses sell us stock?

Sydney is a big importing, distribution and retail city, and excess stock turns up at every stage of the supply chain. The businesses that call us usually fall into a few groups:

  • Importers and wholesalers with containers that landed after a retailer cancelled an order, or a range that didn't sell through.
  • Distributors and 3PL clients in Western Sydney's warehouse and industrial areas, paying storage on pallets that haven't moved in months.
  • Manufacturers and food producers with overruns, packaging changes or short-dated product.
  • Retailers clearing discontinued lines, end-of-season stock or a store closure.
  • Administrators and liquidators who need a business's stock turned into cash. We work closely with insolvency practitioners and they like working with us. See our page for administrators and liquidators.

Every now and again, consumer goods companies run into excess stock problems, often for reasons outside their control: cancelled orders, wrong packaging, a shift in market trends. It's not a sign of a badly run business. It's what happens when you hold stock.

How does selling stock to a Sydney buyer work?

It works the same way it does anywhere, with the advantage that we're close by.

  1. Email the details to john@coorey.com: a stock list spreadsheet (SKU, description, quantity, cost or RRP if you're happy to share, best-before dates), photos and the stock's location.
  2. John surveys the market discreetly to find out what the stock is worth right now.
  3. In most cases, he makes an offer for the lot. If that isn't possible, he'll give you his best advice on how to sell it.
  4. Collection or delivery is agreed per parcel. We're happy to arrange collection, or you can deliver.
  5. Payment is made promptly, as per our agreed terms.

If it helps to see the stock or talk it through face to face, being in Sydney makes that easy. You can read the full process on our sell excess stock page.

Is a stock buyer better than a clearance sale in Sydney?

Often, yes, but not always. A clearance sale in your own store or online can work for small amounts. The problem in a crowded market like Sydney is that your regular customers see the discount, and some of them will wait for the next one.

Option Works for The risk
Your own clearance sale Small quantities, a strong retail channel Undercuts your full-price range in your own market
Online marketplaces Individual items, time to pack and post Fees, competition and public listings
Auction Mixed lots, equipment No control over price or who buys
Stock buyer Parcels of any size You'll get a trade price, not retail

A buyer like us can place your stock outside Sydney, interstate or overseas if you'd rather it didn't sit on local shelves. Major retailers, discount chains, charities, wholesalers, distributors and overseas buyers all buy for different reasons, and we structure the deal to suit the buyer and your restrictions. For a wider view, read who buys excess stock in Australia and our guide on protecting your brand when clearing stock.

Do you only buy stock in Sydney?

No. Sydney is our base, but we buy from anywhere in NSW, anywhere in Australia, from New Zealand and internationally. We once bought 19 containers of washing powder in New Zealand and sold them to Singapore without meeting the buyer or the seller. Distance rarely gets in the way of a good deal.

There's no minimum size, either. A few pallets from a small Sydney importer get the same attention as a warehouse full. John likes small parcels, because a small parcel sometimes leads to a big one.

What has Coorey and Co bought before?

Over three decades, we've handled food, soft drinks, confectionery, personal care, nappies, clothing, shoes, toys, licensed products, electrical products, batteries, paint, adhesive tapes, cleaning products and much more. A few of the bigger jobs:

  • 37 semi-trailers of short-dated orange juice.
  • 27 semi-trailers of a discontinued paint product.
  • A discontinued line of glass bottles, which we had filled with soft drink by a beverage company with spare capacity, then sold to a discount retailer.

If your stock has a problem, such as a labelling error, damaged cartons or a short date, tell us up front. We're open with buyers about it, and we can often still find a home for it. If you're closing a business, see our page on closing-down business stock.

Frequently asked questions

Can I meet John in person?

Yes, if it helps. Our office is at Level 14, 32 Smith Street, Parramatta. Most deals still start with an email and a phone call, because a stock list and photos tell us most of what we need.

Do you buy stock in regional NSW?

Yes. We buy from anywhere in NSW, and anywhere in Australia. Collection or delivery is agreed per parcel, depending on where the stock is and how much there is.

Will my stock end up back in Sydney stores next to my full-price range?

Not if you tell us you don't want it to. We strictly follow your guidelines on pricing and distribution locations, and we can steer stock towards buyers outside your market.

Can you look at the stock in my warehouse?

Sometimes it's useful to see stock in person, and being in Sydney makes that easier. For most parcels, though, good photos of the product and cartons are enough to get started.

Do you buy stock from Sydney retailers that are closing down?

Yes. Closing-down stock is a common reason businesses call us. Send the list early, while you still have time to arrange collection before the lease ends.
