Excess stock buyers for Melbourne and Victoria
Coorey and Co buys excess, surplus and liquidation stock from Melbourne and across Victoria. We're based in Sydney and work with Melbourne businesses by phone and email. Send a stock list and photos, and in most cases we'll make an offer for the whole parcel, with collection or delivery agreed to suit.
- 30+ years buying excess stock
- Confidential & discreet
- We can buy the whole parcel
Melbourne businesses sell excess stock to us regularly, even though we're based in Sydney. Coorey and Co has been buying and selling excess stock for over 30 years. We buy the whole parcel ourselves in most cases, then resell it through our own network, so you deal with one buyer, one offer and one set of terms.
We'll be straight with you about distance: there's no Melbourne office. John Coorey runs the business from Parramatta and does deals across Australia by phone and email every week. For most parcels, that's all it takes.
Who buys excess stock in Melbourne?
Melbourne businesses have several options: their own clearance sales, online marketplaces, auction houses, charities, local jobbers and national stock buyers like us. The right one depends on how much you have, how fast you need cash, and how much you care about where the stock ends up.
We suit businesses that want a quiet, clean sale of a whole parcel, with control over where it's resold. Our four guarantees:
- "We strictly follow your guidelines in relation to pricing and distribution locations."
- "We send payment promptly, as per our agreed terms."
- "We place a priority focus on clearing your stock."
- "We speedily and discreetly convert your stock into cash at the highest possible price, without damaging your market position."
For an honest comparison of every option, read who buys excess stock in Australia.
What kinds of Melbourne businesses end up with excess stock?
Melbourne has a long history in clothing, footwear and textiles, a large food manufacturing sector, and plenty of importers and distributors. That mix shapes the stock we see:
- Fashion labels and apparel wholesalers with end-of-season ranges, sizing runs that didn't sell, or discontinued colours. See our page on clothing and footwear stock.
- Food and beverage manufacturers with overruns, packaging changes or short-dated product.
- Importers and distributors holding stock after a retailer cancelled an order or a range was ranged out.
- Retailers clearing discontinued lines or closing stores.
- Administrators and liquidators realising stock from businesses in administration. We work closely with insolvency practitioners on these jobs.
Fashion stock has its own pressure. Seasons move quickly, and a range that's worth something this season can be worth much less next season. The earlier you call, the more options there are.
How does it work if I'm in Melbourne and you're in Sydney?
The same way it works for a Sydney seller. Distance mainly affects the freight conversation.
- Email your stock list to john@coorey.com. Include SKU, description, quantity, cost or RRP if you're happy to share, best-before dates for anything dated, and the warehouse location.
- Add photos of the product, the outer cartons and any labels. These do the job an inspection would.
- Have a phone call with John to fill in the gaps: why the stock is surplus, any restrictions on where it can be sold, and your timing.
- John discreetly surveys the market to find out what it's worth.
- In most cases, he makes an offer for the lot. If buying it all isn't possible, he'll give you his best advice on how to sell it.
- Collection or delivery is agreed per parcel. We're happy to arrange collection, or you can deliver. The stock doesn't always need to come to Sydney. It goes where makes sense for the buyer.
- Payment is made promptly, as per our agreed terms.
Will freight from Melbourne reduce my offer?
It can be a factor, and we'll be upfront about it. Moving stock costs money, and someone pays for it. Where the stock is, how much there is and how it's packed all play a part. Because the stock doesn't always need to come through Sydney, the freight cost isn't always as big as people expect. For more on what drives the price, read how much is my stock worth.
Should I take the first offer?
If it's fair, usually yes. In more than 30 years, John has rarely seen excess stock go up in value while it sits in a warehouse. Storage keeps costing, dates keep running down, and fashion moves on. Holding out for a better price usually means accepting a lower one later.
What has Coorey and Co bought before?
Plenty, from all over. Over the years we've bought and sold food, soft drinks, confectionery, clothing, shoes, underwear, stockings, toys, licensed products, cosmetics, personal care, electrical products, batteries, paint and cleaning products. A few of the bigger jobs:
- 37 semi-trailers of short-dated orange juice.
- 27 semi-trailers of a discontinued paint product.
- 19 containers of washing powder, bought in New Zealand and sold to Singapore without meeting the buyer or the seller.
There's no minimum size. John likes small parcels too, because a small parcel sometimes leads to a big one. If some of the stock has a problem, such as damaged cartons, a labelling error or a short date, tell us. We're open with buyers about it and can often still find a home for it.
What if I only want to clear part of the range?
That's fine. Send the full stock list anyway and mark the lines you want to sell. Seeing the whole picture helps us understand the parcel, and sometimes a buyer who wants one line will take another with it. If you only want to clear certain sizes or colours of a fashion range, say so. We'll tell you which lines we can buy and give you our best advice on the rest.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have a Melbourne office?
No. Our only office is in Parramatta, Sydney. We buy from Melbourne and the rest of Victoria regularly, working by phone and email.
Will you come and inspect the stock?
For most parcels we don't need to. A stock list, clear photos of the product and cartons, and a phone call usually give us what we need to value it.
Who pays to move the stock out of my Melbourne warehouse?
It depends on the parcel and is agreed up front. We're happy to arrange collection, or you can deliver. Either way, freight is part of the deal we agree, not a surprise later.
Can you keep my stock out of Victorian stores?
Yes, if that's what you need. We strictly follow your guidelines on pricing and distribution locations, so you can rule out states, retailers or channels.
Do you buy from regional Victoria too?
Yes. We buy from anywhere in Victoria and anywhere in Australia. Tell us where the stock is and we'll work out the logistics with you.
